Sadie’s is Back!
There is no need to worry about not having many fun dances this school year. Sadie Hawkins is a fun exciting way to go and get your groove on!
This year, Student Council is bringing back the customary Sadie Hawkins dance. Sadie’s is traditionally a time where the ladies of LHS ask to escort their sweetheart rather than the other way around.
“I think it’s a fun idea to kind of switch things up. It’s nice to take the pressure off of the guys and to put it on the girls for once,” senior Chloe Gossett said.
The Sadie Hawkin’s dance will be held on Saturday, March 21st in the Cokley Fieldhouse from 8:00-11:00 PM. There isn’t an actual theme for this year’s dance. There will be a very simple title with lighting and bright, springy colors for decoration. If anyone wants to buy their ticket pre-dance, they will cost 10 dollars, while at the door tickets will cost 15 dollars.
With the recent loss of the basketball Court-Warming dance, StuCo decided Sadie Hawkins was a good idea to give underclassmen more openings for dances since homecoming would be the only other dance freshmen and sophomores could attend.
“We brought it back because since there is no court-warming dance there are only two big dances; homecoming and prom,” Guidance Counselor Melanie Prince said. “We thought this dance would be a good opportunity for students who can’t go to prom to be able to go to another dance this year.”
Sadie’s is more of a sweetheart dance rather than a sport-related formal. It’s just a fun dance with backwards rules and a way anyone, even underclassmen can go dance and have fun. There is still a debate with Student Council on whether there will be fun spirit-like activities happening before the dance to get people excited for the actual dance.
“Spirit week normally revolves around a sport. Homecoming is football and Court-Warming is basketball so there is not really a sport revolving around Sadie’s,” Gossett said.
Even though there is not a sport revolving around Sadie’s like other dances, Student Council is still looking forward to publicizing this dance and having high attendance from everyone.
“We’re just kind of taking the idea and running with it. We’re hoping to make it big, popular and not as secluded as it has been in the past,” sophomore Kamryn Downing said.
Last year, there was no Sadie Hawkins dance but in prior years the dance was run by the African American Association. Since this is the first year StuCo will be running the Sadie Hawkins dance, they want to make it memorable for everyone of all grades and all people at LHS.
Lots of students here at LHS may be skeptical of Sadie Hawkins. They may deliberate that the “girls ask guys” is not the way dances nonetheless dates in general work. Sadie’s is not meant to put girls on the spot or mortify them out of even going because they have to ask a guy.
I feel like all of the pressure is kind of taken off. It’s like a roll reversal. You don’t have to think of anything. All of the girls have to plan everything so that’s kind of nice,” senior Joe Kretsinger said.
It’s simply a fun way to take the pressure off of the gentlemen because they feel the same pressure asking all of the ladies to every other formal dance at this school.
Student council members seem to be pretty confident in this year’s Sadie Hawkins dance.
“I’ve heard form StuCo that not a lot of people go to the court-warming dances so I think there will be more attendance if we publicize a lot,” freshmen Riley Kelley said.
Change does not have to be hard if you don’t let it. If you’re a freshman, sophomore, junior or a senior and want another dance to attend this school year besides prom, Sadie Hawkins is your last opportunity so go have fun and get your groove on LHS!
