Throw the powder

LHS and StuCo hold the second annual Powder Party.

For LHS showing spirit and being loud and proud is a part of the Blue Jay tradition. The Powder Party is yet another new part of this tradition, having started last year in 2015. StuCo was looking for a way to get people excited before the big Homecoming game and what better way than to throw around vibrant powder packets and show up to the game dosed in different colors.

“Last year’s Powder Party was very successful and this year we were hoping it was going to be even better,” junior Morgan Benton said, “I’m happy to say that we accomplished that.”

The first 400 people to enter the Powder Party received a free shirt and a free slice of pizza along with a packet of colored powder.

For this year’s Powder Party all 400 shirts were given out, along with more students showing up in other white clothes. When the crowd has shifted down to the back parking lot an advisor called out the colors and students were allowed to throw around powder as they please.

“I’m was very excited because it’s my first year in high school and to attend a casual school event like the powder party was very exciting,” freshman Caroline Crawford said.

StuCo was very happy with how the Powder Party occurred and felt that this was a great turnout for such a lesser known event.

“The Powder Party is something we plan on doing for years to come and we are really proud of how many people seem to enjoy it,” sophomore Jacob Marquis said, “I think that it’s one of the more fun things we organize.”
