New Dance? ‘Snow Problem
StuCo representatives share about the new Court warming semi-formal.
Court warming 2019 will be the first year students at LHS will have an opportunity to go to a semi-formal on Saturday, February 2. Instead of the usual Glow Dance that would occur after the Friday night basketball game, students now have the chance to dress in their best attire Saturday night at 8:00 p.m.
Winter Ball Semi-Formal
The semi-formal dance is being held from 8:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. Based on student feedback, the Glow Dance after the Friday night basketball game has been changed to a semi-formal dance, which is similar to Homecoming.
“StuCo decided to give the people what they wanted because they have all wanted another semi-formal dance,” senior Kristen Pettibon said. “Especially the underclassmen, since they only have one dance they can go to so this gives them another opportunity. It just gives more opportunities in general, too. I know a lot of kids in forensics and debate who didn’t get to go to Homecoming because of a huge tournament, so this gives them another opportunity.”
“This year I’m excited for something new. We have done the Glow Dance before so the Winter Ball is nice,” StuCo representative senior Shelby Erickson said.
“I’m excited to see how the student body reacts to the change.”
StuCo has had this in mind since the beginning of the year, but the majority of the planning came right after Winter Break.
“The day before school started [after Winter Break], all of StuCo came in from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. to work on it, but we started around the beginning of the year. We took four hours on January 7 to do everything,” Manis said.
By spending that time planning for the new dance event, StuCo hopes for the best outcome.
“We want people to know that this is something new, but we are working really hard to make sure that is it just as good, if not better, than the Glow Dances in the past,” Erickson said. “Come, it will be fun.”
