Principal announces her plans to retire at the end of the school year.
After being named the Jim L. King 2022 Missouri High School Principal of the Year, Dr. April Adams is set to retire following the end of the 2022-2023 school year.
Adams publicly announced her retirement via a school-wide email to students on Dec. 21, following the Board of Education meeting on Dec. 20, two days before the start of winter break.
“As a member of the Liberty community, I am incredibly proud of Liberty High School, the amazing faculty and staff and the absolutely phenomenal programming we have put into place,” Adams remarked at the meeting.
Adams has been Liberty’s principal since 2009, serving as an assistant principal for seven years prior. She made the Courier-Tribune’s list of most impactful people for 2022.
“High school is such an important part of the lives of our children, and I am grateful to have had the ability to support and invest in so many amazing young adults’ lives. To be a Blue Jay is a membership that I hold near and dear in my heart,” Adams said.
Adams is one of three Liberty Public Schools’ administrators retiring at the end of the school year., including Dr. Sarah Birk and Dr. Jeanette Westfall. Her replacement has not been announced at this time.
“[being a principal] is about supporting and letting people grow,” Adams
mentioned. “We are where we are because we are here together.”
