Senior Jaxson Hicks receives the Thomas Simone award and Coach Chad Frigon receives the Eric Driskell Coach of the Year award.
On Dec. 10 2024, at 10 a.m. senior Jaxson Hicks received the Thomas Simone Award awarded to the most outstanding high school football players in Greater Kansas City.
The award was originally established in 1932 in the name of Dr. D.M. Nigro. Still, after his death in 1976, no award was given until 1983 when the 12-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Anthony Simone, Tommy, was tragically killed in an automobile accident, they then reinstated the award.
A vote of the high school football coaches and media members in the metropolitan area selects the award recipient. The award is given to a football player who is representative of excellence on the playing field. The trophy symbolizes the love, courage and friendship, the qualities young Tommy displayed.
Alongside Hicks, Coach Chad Frigon was awarded the Eric Driskell Coach of the Year award given to a coach who has demonstrated outstanding coaching qualities over the past season.
