Country music star Chris Stapleton dropped his first album since “Traveller” which was released eight years ago in 2015. His album entitled “Higher” was released Nov. 13, and includes 14 songs. The album does a spectacular job with each song containing a storyline as we’ve seen in his previous music.
Stapleton stuck with what works in this brilliant and tranquil album, “Higher.” His previous album “Traveller,” this new project shared his peace of mind music we all need.
Although, not all people are country music fans or prefer to listen to this genre of music.
According to Country Now, “Stapleton admits to feeling a bit of trepidation surrounding the initial drop as there’s no telling where fans’ opinions will lie.”
One concept Stapleton grasped really is his diversity of music. He has dabbled in pop and classical jazz too. Working with artists like Adele and Justin Timberlake, Stapleton proved you do not have to love country to love his music.
“I feel like his music is for everyone because he incorporates multiple genres on his albums. There are happy upbeat songs and slower sad songs, so people can enjoy them all,” senior Ava Hood said. “I think it also helps that he sounds like a country singer but doesn’t have that strong country accent, so people enjoy him more when he isn’t strictly country.”
The album truly does come to life as it was dedicated to his wife, singer and songwriter Morgane Stapleton. Songs like, “What Am I Gonna Do” and “It Takes A Woman ” are Stapelton’s way of expressing his love for her while also putting the listener in the backseat of a truly romantic story.
“I think all of these songs tell a remarkable story about him and his wife’s relationship,” Hood said.
The 14-track album “Higher” is an overall 8/10 in my book. It is comparatively good to “Traveller” which sold 2.6 million copies. You can give it a listen on Spotify, Apple Music and YouTube.
