A Royal Experience: Headin’ to the World Series
The Royals are sweeping the nation; they’re headed to the World Series. This October, the team set the single season record for most post-season wins. The reality of this achievement is finally setting in for all the KC fans. Here are a few of the LHS freshmen opinions on the 2014 trip to the series.
Chasing the Dream for 29 Years
My parents and I are not originally from this country, so baseball and the Kansas City Royals were two things that were pretty new to us. However, once their winning season started rolling, and the true story behind the Royals’ past began to reveal itself, we could understand what all the “hype” was about. The Royals are not just chasing a title, a trophy or even popularity. The Royals are chasing a dream, the kind of dream that can be held for 29 years, and my foreign family and I have no doubts that they can achieve it.
Royals Take the Crown
My royals experience was dead in the beginning. Everyone was staring at the tv in Applebees waiting for the end to see who would win. Someone screamed “Royals won!” Chaos broke out and everyone started chanting “Royals,Royals, Royals!” My mom and I joined in. We started breaking out laughing. Food was being thrown everywhere, my mom and I rushed out before it was late.
On the Verge of Tears
I come from a baseball/softball oriented family. All the men on my dad’s side play baseball, my cousin and older sister played softball and I play softball as well. We all are die-hard Royals fans. This past month has without a doubt been the best month in my family’s life. My sister and I are probably the biggest fans of the family, and we are not ashamed. We went to 2014 Opening Day, and later went to 9 games. If we can’t go to the game, you’d find us sitting on our grandparent’s couch watching the game with our grandparents in their living room.
I remember the moment that I learned we were going to the play offs. I was in Springfield with your Lady Jays softball team, sitting on the bus waiting for our coaches to get out of the bar from watching that amazing game. I teared up on that bus, being surrounded by 13 other cheering girls.
I remember when we won the Wildcard game. I was home, in my room. My dad was asleep in his room, and that was the only room in the house with a TV that aired the game. Looking back, I realized I could have gone down stairs, but it was late on a school night, and knowing my luck, I would have gotten caught, and gotten in trouble. I have a SportsCenter app on my phone where you can get live updates on any game that you want. I was updating it every other second. When I saw that eight change to a nine next to the unforgettable KC logo, and the words “final score” popped up, I teared up in my bed, alone in my room.
I remember when we won the American League Division Series. I was sitting in my grandparent’s living room, on the couch. I watched Mike Trout step up to the plate with two strikes on him, and I watched him swing and miss, losing their final game of the season for the Los Angeles Angels. I teared up on that couch, surrounded by my cheering sister and grandparents.
Now I am writing to you, the night of the final game in the American League Championship Series. The night history was made. The night that Kansas City’s dream of the Royals going to the World Series came true. When I watched Moustakas (Moooooooose) make the final out for game four, I cried the happiest tears of my life, surrounded by my family.
Once in a Lifetime
I was at musical practice at the time when I heard the Royals won and were moving on to the World Series. It was awesome. I was in the school at the time waiting for my ride to show up. All of the sudden I heard somebody scream “The Royals won” and then everybody in the room broke out in happy dances and cheers. It was a tight game with two to one but we did win and now we are going to the world series!
Royals Tribute
I want to start by saying that I am very proud of the Royals and especially this years post-season success. The Royals are 8-0 right now and the Royals eighth straight post-season win is the win that is officially leading the Royals to the World Series. It is amazing feeling the different atmosphere made in the town and throughout our school because of the big, constant wins from the Royals. The Royals, right now, are causing there to be a huge amount of pride for our city. I remember, this past weekend, after our first day of our competitive theater/debate tournament most of the novice (first year) competitors came together to eat dinner after a long day and to watch the big game together. I remember us all being restless waiting around before it was time to eat, we were ready to see how the game was going. Once we got our food we all gathered around the tables and were tuned into the game, watching every play. Sadly, we had to leave the restaurant before the game had ended, but to find out that the Royals ended up winning excited everyone. It was fun, all of us being gathered around showing our support by cheering on our team, bonding as a team.
It’s awesome apart of blue October and to be apart of something like the World Series that this city has not experienced since 1985.
