Track and Field is in Full Swing
Jays show out at Rusty Hodges Invitational.
Last week on Mar 31, in the Blue Jays first varsity track meet of the season, the team finished second overall in women’s events and fourth overall in men’s events among 18 teams at Blue Springs South High School.
The top performances for women’s events included second place and sixth place finishes in the 3200m race for sophomores Ella Brown(12:00.16) and Cambell Grosdidier(12:52.87) respectively. Senior Natalie Hill finished first(34-03.50) in the triple jump and senior Caden Van Hauen finished third(33-08.25). Sophomore Alyssah Price finished third in shot put(36-09.00) while senior Jocelyn Renfro finished in fourth(36-03.75).
Meanwhile, top performances in men’s events include the 3200m race where junior Peyton Wilbanks finished first(9:46.17) and sophomore Connor Nicholson finished second(9:51.18).
“It hurts a lot and it’s a really long race,” Nicholson said of the 3200m race. “It’s hard to go fast consistently and it’s really easy to zone out, but I feel like I ran pretty well even though it wasn’t my best time.
”
The 4x800m team of senior Myles Thornburg(who also finished first in the 1600m race with a time of 4:23.37), sophomore Todd Yeates, sophomore Patrick Cleary and junior Evan McWhorter finished first(8:23.53). Senior Logan Miner finished third(133-00.75) in discus while sophomore Tucker Harvey finished in sixth(127-07.00).
The team’s next meet will be held on Apr. 6 at Lee’s Summit West High School that will feature 12 teams and the team’s Twitter can be found at @LIBERTYTF.
