In the summer before 6th grade year, Sophomore Kasey Allshouse packed up her immediate family and moved from Cypress, California to her new home here in Liberty, Missouri.
“Because of the cutoff year I had to take 6th grade twice,” Allshouse said “so technically this year I was suppose to be a Junior”
Back in California Kasey started playing soccer at the age of three and hasn’t given up since. She lettered her freshman year while playing for the school and in the offseason plays for a club team in Independence. In 8th grade Kasey also picked up a knack for basketball, playing on the freshmen team here at LHS.
Being in our first class of Freshmen to return to the high school, Allshouse said she had mixed emotions about the big change. The idea was not too foreign since back in Cypress, high school is freshman through seniors as opposed to sophomore through seniors the way kids in Liberty have always done it.
“I felt bad adding another grade to Liberty, “ Kasey said, “the upperclassmen already don’t like freshman and we made the hallways noticeably more crowded. Not to mention the teachers in middle school and junior high definitely didn’t prepare me for the difficulty of high school.”
All in all, the last four years of Kasey Allshouse’s life has been full of transitions but she finds a way to cope and continues to be successful in whatever comes her way.
