Umbreit has been dancing since she was five years old, and has been dancing competitively at the same studio for seven years. She’s also a member of Sapphires.
“I was on Sapphires the last two years, so I got to be a little more involved with football and basketball, dancing at the games, that’s kind of my expertise,” Umbreit said.
Umbreit finds joining clubs really special.
“There were a lot of things I was interested in,and the more I joined clubs, the more clubs I wanted to join because I saw how many new friends and connections I was making through those clubs,” Umbreit said, “I really like being involved because it’s a really good way to meet new people and potentially find new things you’d be interested in.”
Umbreit has taken Spanish classes for four years now, and plans on being biliteral.
Her mom’s side of the family speaks Spanish, so she takes pride in knowing that she can connect to her family in another way.
“I’ve always wanted to learn Spanish because my grandma is from Argentina, and my mom’s side of the family speaks Spanish, so it’s been important for me to learn,” Umbreit says.
Umbreit also enjoys being a part of LINK Crew, a club of upperclassmen that help freshman settle into high school life. Student Council is also a huge part of Umbreit’s school life.
“I’ve always loved StuCo, and I missed the two years I didn’t join,” Umbreit said. “The MASC offers a bunch of cool programs, and they’re really fun to be a part of, and there’s a lot of opportunities to come with that.”
