Regan Johnston, Editor In Chief
Roughly 4 years ago, a boy sat in his eighth grade Advanced ELA classroom, listening to a presentation about the LHS school newspaper. The current seniors on staff were trying to recruit incoming freshmen. The student was instantly intrigued and thought it would be a fun experience. So, he joined. 4 years later, he is now the Editor in Chief of The Bell.
“They talked about all of the fun things they did together, and how they became a kind of community,” senior Regan Johnston said. “ My favorite thing [about being a part of the newspaper] is being able to have a safe space in the school to go to and be with a group of people all working towards the same goal.”
Johnston takes inspiration from the EICs of The Bell’s past.
“I saw what the other editors in Chief were able to do and I wanted that for myself,” Johnston said. “They were able to bring different kids together and they were able to put issue after issue out every month. I want to do the same.”
With the COVID-19 pandemic, many changes have been made to LHS, and likewise, to The Bell. However, Johnston is still excited and hopeful for the year ahead.
“I am excited for the times we are going to have together and the things that we are going to learn,” Johnston said. “I feel like we are going to have a great year and I am excited to see what the future holds for The Bell.”
In his freetime, Johnston enjoys reading, and spending time with friends and family.
“I really like to socialize and be around people,” Johnston said. “We don’t even have to be doing anything. It can be a boring task, I just like to be with other people.”
