Spring is definitely in the air and with only 10 days left of school, summer is rapidly approaching. Now, the term “summer” can be interpreted in one of two ways. In can mean spending a countless number of hours out in the sun at the swimming pool or it can be taken as the dreaded four letter noun: work. For some, that means searching through the classified section and for others, not so much. Believe it or not, one of the easiest places to score a job is at Worlds of Fun and Oceans of Fun.
“We employ around 3,500 people each season, making us the largest youth employer in the city,” Worlds of Fun Public Relations Manager Brandon Stanley said.
On Saturday, April 16th at 10:00 AM, Worlds of Fun opened its gates for its 39th season giving students an early start on their summer vacation.
“This is my first season working at Worlds of Fun,” junior Morgan Braden said. “I am a Merchandise Ambassador in which I stock shelves and put merchandise back where it belongs after customers have looked at it.”
Worlds of Fun and Oceans of Fun offers a wide variety of position ranging from a Games Ambassador to a Lifeguard. But it is not always about what you do, it is about having fun doing it.
“My favorite part about working at Oceans of Fun is saving people,” junior Autumne Mathews said. “It keeps you on your toes and it feels really awesome to help people out when they are having trouble.”
Some students may think that these are the two worst possible places to work at, but in the long run its setting employees up for success.
“I have gained a lot of first aid and rescue training,” senior Jourdan Thomas said. “I have learned how to work hard and I’ve made lifetime friendships. Lifeguarding also looks good on resumes for future jobs.”
When in search of a job, think about giving Worlds of Fun or Oceans of Fun a shot. Ultimately, it is a job that gives back to its employees.
“The biggest benefit is free admission to our parks as well as all the Cedar Fair parks,” Stanley said. “Of course we also have a bonus program, employee intramural, scholarships, employee rewards programs and more. Plus, we offer fun activities like ride nights after the park closes, swim parties and grill out lunches. It really is a fun place to work!”
