The Library Media Center is being set up for this Teentober for October to get the students back into the LMC. This is replacing Teen Read Week and Teen Tech Week, all created by the Young Adult Library Services Association branch of the American Library Association so the event can last all month long instead of just two weeks.
“We spend a lot of time in September planning for Teentober. It is our favorite month in the library,” Library Media Specialist Lori Riedel said.
The librarians set up games and questionnaires for students and staff such as, Clue or Guess That Ghost. School members will receive Google forms through email and the first student or staff member to get the question right receives candy from the LMC.
“We try to change it up a little each year. The feedback we have received has been great. We have lots of participation in the trivia and students love the Friday Prize Wheel.” Riedel said.
Teentober has been in existence since 2020. Each year, they change what games are being played or the type of trivia. This year there will be two weeks of trivia and Friday Prize Days.
“I think the librarians did an amazing job with Teentober. You can tell they put care into the festivities so that the students will enjoy and remember Teentober,” sophomore Kaleb Miller said.
The LMC is mainly used as a place to go for flex, study or to find a good book to read. The LMC is also home to a design studio, a virtual reality studio, an audio production studio, a collaboration studio, and the video studio that’s shared with KLHS, color printer, black and white printer and a glowforge.
Teentober is the library’s favorite event during the school year. They put in hours of time to get decorations set up, and all the planning ready.
